Through a series of executive-level stakeholder meetings, prioritization exercises, and successive rounds of user testing, Behavior redesigned the home page, section landing pages, and primary navigation of Businessweek.com.

We presented business news readers with a diverse selection of creative concepts for the home page, each conveying a sense of timeliness and increased pace over the existing approach. A second round of testing let us fine-tune the messaging further, combining aspects of a data-centric approach with an emphasis on the depth of BusinessWeek's coverage.

This project also provided the opportunity to update the main editorial website's primary navigation with links to the Business Exchange, a topic-based social news and information initiative Behavior designed in collaboration with BusinessWeek's technology, editorial, and business staff.

Call it Publishing 2.0. The forward-thinking leaders at BusinessWeek.com wanted to augment their award-winning editorial content with the collective wisdom and specialized interests of their diverse reader community. The solution is a groundbreaking topic-based social news and information initiative called the Business Exchange.

Working in tight collaboration with senior members of BusinessWeek’s technology, editorial, and business staff, Behavior’s team of user experience experts developed the core interaction design and user interface of the Business Exchange’s integrated suite of powerful business tools. Through rapid prototyping and testing, Behavior worked as an integral part of BusinessWeek’s innovative product development approach.

Users can read and save articles from over a thousand topics, from Cloud Computing to Green Energy, and can contribute interesting links they find elsewhere on the web. The best links in each topic automatically surface to the top, based on BX user interest and activity. “The core strategy was to allow users to leverage the power of each other,” says Behavior co-founder Christopher Fahey.

Behavior redesigned AARP’s online publication—AARP Bulletin Today.

While we leveraged the global navigation and architecture established during AARP’s Web site redesign, we wanted to incorporate the publication’s unique brand identity and mimic the print design aesthetic by including its original typography, editorials, cartoons, and other fundamental features existent in the publications design. This strategy provided readers with a seamless transition from print-to-web with the added value of Web 2.0 elements.

AARP Bulletin Today successfully launched as a fully-loaded, user-centered online community publication.

Intuit, a financial software company, hired Behavior to design and implement a fun and engaging Web-based application to help parents teach their five- to eight-year-old children how to earn, spend, save and share money.

The backbone of the site is an expert-led activities center called “Milestones” where parents and their children can work together to achieve financial goals. Another key component is the community area where members can create discussion topics, exchange information, and use audio clips to share success stories.

As an end-to-end solution, the site was designed using highly flexible modules, a quick-response calendar, and an online expert-and-member conference function. The robust content management system allows Intuit administrators to easily create and edit all of site’s content.

Interactive user experience design is not just about building web pages; it’s about building lasting relationships between customers and brands through powerful, useful, and usable products and services.

The first step is strategy. Behavior’s experienced leadership will help you:

Envision: Imagining new customer touch points and experience models and then conceiving new ways of building relationships with your audience.

Innovate: Designing new ways to engage your customers through groundbreaking concepts for the web and newer emerging platforms.

Optimize: Making your site work better for your users through improved usability, accessibility, performance, and search engine optimization.

Prioritize: Developing a strategy for all of the above, to roll out functionality and content so that you launch the right thing at the right time for your business.

Evolve: Transforming how your organization thinks about user experience design and technology through training and education.

What’s more, Behavior works as part of your team. We get buy-in from all departments, facilitate consensus building, and engage stakeholders from the boardroom to the trenches. The result is an actionable and well-defined strategy.
